How To Depuff Your Face Fast

Sep 2, 2020

Whether it was a late-night restaurant dinner, a bowl of salty snacks while watching Netflix at home or one too many cocktails at your favorite bar, some indulgences unequivocally result in visible and undesirable consequences — namely, a puffy face come morning.

As sodium is so good at retaining water in your body, and modern snacks as well as restaurant meals are full of it, you shouldn’t be surprised to see your face being somewhat bloated the next day. Alcohol and lack of sleep are also known to make the situation worse.

Naturally, your first reaction is looking for “how to depuff face quickly” — you might have a Zoom call to hop on, after all. Don’t stress! Every well-known dermatologist has their best way to depuff faces, and we’ll try to combine the most effective tips for you in the guide below.

Use an extra pillow

When you dip into some occasional guilty pleasure, you already know the effect it’s going to have on you, so be prepared. Start by sleeping on two pillows instead of one. The elevated head position will result in less fluid being retained around your face and, to some extent, negate puffiness.

Additionally, you could try using a pillowcase woven with silver, which has antimicrobial properties and would thus help manage inflammation too. We recommend Silvon.

Embrace the benefits of ice

The answer to how to depuff your face in morning is generally known to center around cold therapy. The coldness helps constrict the blood vessels in your face to lessen redness and puffiness.

There are a few ways to tighten your skin with ice. Try a few and pick the one that works best for you.

The most simple thing you can do is take an ice cube and just gently rub it all over your face in a sort of depuff face massage. You’ll likely see the result in just under a minute.

Alternatively, you can fill a bathroom sink with cold water, throw a tray of ice cubes in there and add something anti-inflammatory like witch hazel as well. Then dunk your face in about 10 times or generously splash the water on your face for a minute or so.

Another good answer to how to depuff eyes and face can be done simultaneously with applying eye cream or moisturizer. First, throw a few spoons in your freezer first thing in the morning (or the night before). Take a hot shower. Then, use the spoons to spread your moisturizer, eye cream and anything else that’s part of your morning routine. Start by going from the eyes inward, toward the nose, and then outward, toward your ears and mouth.

If you happen to have a jade facial roller, you can do a good depuffing face massage using that by activating your lymph nodes. Putting your roller in the freezer beforehand would add the benefits of cold exposure too.

Go all in on caffeine

If there’s one ingredient that’s widely known to depuff your face fast, especially around your eyes, it’s caffeine. In the morning, before your beauty routine, steep some green tea and put it in the fridge. Once the tea is cold, dip a cotton pad in it, then gently press the pad against your eyelids. You’ll see the depuffing effect right away.

Next time, you could even prepare the night before and freeze a few green-tea ice cubes to use the following morning as described in the section above.

In case you’re not a fan of ice therapy and wondering how to depuff eyes and face without it, you could try using a special hydrating eye cream with caffeine, which works particularly well with the under-eye area for helping get rid of puffiness and dark circles. We think The INKEY List would do a pretty good job here.

As you can see the best way to depuff your face is to avoid consuming too much salt and alcohol late at night in the first place. The second best is to prepare in advance by sleeping on an extra pillow, freezing some green-tea ice cubes and having your caffeine-infused eye cream ready to go. Now you can truly focus on your morning video chats without becoming too self-conscious halfway in.
